Dawit Nega, a prominent Tigrigna artist, died on Sunday, June 12, at the age of 34, according to Ethiopian news portals. According to reports, the singer-songwriter was briefly hospitalized over the weekend before his death. According to certain local reports, the singer was admitted to Addis Hiwot Hospital in Addis Abeba. Meanwhile, the Addis Standard adds that an autopsy will be performed on Nega, which will reveal further information about the circumstances surrounding his death. According to local Ethiopian BBC reporting, the singer was married and had a kid.
Dawit Nega Cause Of Death
Dawit Nega was brought to the hospital on June 10 after experiencing flu-like symptoms, according to local sources. According to reports, the musician has been suffering from the symptoms since last Monday. Nega was said to have received medical care at the default ward at Addis Hiwot Hospital till Saturday. The Tigrigna singer, 34, was allegedly brought to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Saturday and died at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Other reports, however, place his death around 7 p.m. in the evening.
Meanwhile, the Addis Standard stated that the celebrity treated his agony at home with glucose. This might have increased his blood sugar level, which was already high when he was taken to the hospital. In the hospital, Dawit Nega also contracted pneumonia. This is most likely connected to the elevated glucose levels in his blood. According to the medical website Healthline:
“Diabetes-related high blood sugar levels may also make it more difficult for your body to fight pneumonia once it occurs.”
Diabetes patients often have insulin resistance and suffer respiratory issues such as asthma, pneumonia, and even pulmonary collapse, which may lead to death. They are also at risk of developing respiratory issues such as pulmonary fibrosis and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). It should be emphasized, however, that credible sources have not established whether Dawit Nega had chronic diabetes throughout his life. Following the autopsy, his family expects to learn more about the reason for his death.
All About Dawit Nega
According to local media, Nega was cruelly orphaned at the age of ten. As a result, the young Mek’ele native was forced to sell consumable things on the streets to make ends meet. Nega joined the Circus Tigray entertainment company at the age of 15 to pursue his musical inclination.
Along with his own songs, Nega was well-known for his Coke Studio duet with Mo Farah for his Tigrigna song, which helped propel the local Tigrayan music industry to the worldwide arena. Nega was also recognized as an artist for his works such as Daamena, Wozamai, Kadu Tsabaya, and Chocolate, among others.
