Love Island UK is scheduled to return this summer with a fresh new season on ITV. Season 8 will feature 11 islanders looking for love and having a good time on the program. Tasha Ghouri, a model and dancer from Thirsk, North Yorkshire, is one of the hopefuls heading to the Majorcan mansion.
The 23-year-old islander said in her promotional video for Love Island UK 2022 that she had a superpower. She said that she was born deaf and received a cochlear implant when she was five years old. She drew the attention of British fashion brand ASOS last year when she donned their earrings while having a cochlear implant.
For individuals who are unfamiliar with the term, the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders describes it as follows:
“A cochlear implant is a tiny, complicated electronic device that may assist a person who is profoundly deaf or very hard-of-hearing to hear. The implant comprises of an exterior piece that lies behind the ear and a surgically implanted second portion.”
Meanwhile, Ghouri made history by being the show’s first deaf participant.
Tasha Ghouri’s “superpower”
Tasha Ghouri revealed in an Instagram post that her family and she learned BSL (British Sign Language) when she was little. She can also read people’s lips. If she removes the outer component of her cochlear implant device, she becomes entirely deaf but can still sense vibrations and beats. This is when she turns to body language and lip-reading. Tasha Ghouri revealed her superpower in the Love Island UK opening video. She stated:
“As I like to phrase it, I have a superpower.” So I was born deaf, and at the age of five, I had a cochlear implant, which is something extremely precious and personal to me, but I’m quite open about it. “I’m genuinely like, ‘This is me,’ as if I won’t change for anything.”
She described her experience in the program as follows:
“On a night out, you’ll surely catch me on the dance floor.” I’ll be grooving and having a good time with the gals.”
Ghouri also said that her dating experience has been “shambles,” therefore she is searching for a person who would embrace her for who she is. Only time will tell whether the model finds someone who ticks all of her criteria. Her Instagram is full of photographs from modeling sessions and dancing videos. She defines herself as “goofy and a joker” in her ITV profile, as well as the sort of person that puts others before herself.
