Tom Parker is the Wanted vocalist who died at the age of 33 after suffering glioblastoma, a kind of deadly brain cancer. On March 30, his wife Kelsey Hardwick confirmed the news on her Instagram account. She noted in the post that her husband died gently, surrounded by his whole family:
“Our hearts are devastated; Tom was the center of our universe, and we can’t picture living without his contagious grin and energizing presence.”
Bodhi Thomas Paris Parker, Hardwick and Parker’s kid, was born.
When was Tom Parker’s glioblastoma discovered?
In October 2020, Tom Parker disclosed his glioblastoma (stage 4) diagnosis in an interview with OK! Magazine. Glioblastoma is a “fast-growing and aggressive” tumor, according to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. If left untreated, it has the ability to kill a patient within six months. Even with treatment, a person only survives 12 to 18 months after being diagnosed with a brain tumor, according to The Brain Tumor Charity.
Parker had a battery of tests after having two seizures in July 2020. The testing revealed that he had a brain tumor, according to BBC News. Parker announced on Instagram in October of that year that he and his family would fight the sickness to the end.
“We don’t want your grief; we just want your love and optimism, and together we will raise awareness of this awful illness and seek all possible treatment options.”
Seizures, persistent headaches, vomiting, blurred or double vision, mood or personality changes, appetite loss, and speech impairments are all common symptoms of glioblastoma. Glioblastomas are exceedingly uncommon, with only around 14,000 cases diagnosed in the United States each year, according to Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. Glioblastomas account for just one in every five diagnosed brain tumors. The exact source of this health problem is unclear.
A brief history of Tom Parker and his involvement with The Wanted
Tom Parker co-founded The Wanted with Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, and Nathan Sykes in 2009. In 2010, the trio soared to attention with their first hit, All Time Low. The group broke the UK charts with Glad You Came from their second album, Battleground, after signing with Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande’s manager Scooter Braun. Heart Vacancy, Lose My Mind, and Chasing the Sun are some of the band’s other tracks.
The band declared an extended hiatus in 2014 because the members decided to pursue solo projects. Parker, in addition to recording solo material, also worked as a DJ and collaborated with Richard Rawson on a song called Fireflies.
