NO:EL A Rapper Has Been Convicted To Three Years In Jail For Attacking A Police Officer

NO: EL is a South Korean rapper sentenced to three years in jail after being found guilty of driving under the influence, driving without a license, and assaulting a police officer, among other charges. Jang Yong-jun, the rapper’s actual name, is a well-known yet infamous name in the South Korean rap industry. NO: EL made his debut in 2017 with the album ELLEONOEL. However, he is perhaps most recognized for being the son of politician Chang Je-won, an incumbent Member of the United Future Party’s National Assembly.

NO: EL Was Arrested For Various Offenses, Including Driving Without A License And Assaulting A Police Officer.

On September 18, 2021, the rapper was observed driving his automobile near St. Mary’s Hospital in Seoul’s Banpo-dong neighborhood before colliding with another vehicle. While he was first charged with driving without a license, refusing to complete breathalyzer tests, and disrupting the performance of official responsibilities, the rapper reportedly went on to headbutt a police officer on the scene, resulting in yet another charge.

In addition, the rapper was already on probation for a previous DUI offense in 2019. The case was tried in the Seoul Central District Court on February 25, 2022. During the hearing, the prosecution requested that the rapper be sentenced to a minimum of three years in jail, stating:

“The defendant was on probation for DUI when he committed another crime.”

The Rapper Apologized In September 2021.

Shortly after the event, a black box video of the crash and the rapper’s subsequent meeting with police was made public. NO: EL was seen disputing with the cops before headbutting the officer in command on the video. After the event exacerbated the rapper’s already low public reputation, he apologized on his Instagram story. The rapper said on September 19, 2021:

“I’m at a loss for words. I will accept all of the punishment that is due to me and work hard to become a more mature member of society. I truly apologize to all of my fans and the many others who may have been harmed as a result of my conduct.”

In addition, NO: EL did not have to spend any prison time for his DUI in 2019, which shocked the Korean people. The rapper received merely an 18-month suspended sentence and two-year probation for his DUI. Many assumed at the time that the rapper’s powerful father had anything to do with the lower sentence.
