Derek Draper, Kate Garraway’s spouse, spent 13 months in the hospital after getting coronavirus in March 2020. He was put in an induced coma when his blood pressure plummeted dramatically. He was released from the hospital after more than a year, but he still needs round-the-clock care. Aside from being put in an induced coma, Draper suffered from renal failure, liver, and pancreatic damage, heart failure, and a slew of infections that caused holes in his lungs. During an interview, Garraway discussed his illness, stating the coronavirus had wrecked him. “From his head to the tip of his toe.” “His digestive system, liver, kidney, heart, and nerve system,” she said. “We’re rather certain that the inflammation passed through the brain. He still can’t converse and has mobility challenges.”
Kate Garraway was solely responsible for her children.
Garraway had a difficult time when Draper was hospitalized. She tried her best to care for their two children, Darcey and William. It wasn’t easy for her, and she confessed to failing when it came to teaching her children while her husband was away. Garraway said that it was difficult for her to assist her children with their schooling. “I feel I’ve failed my children by failing to support them in their homeschooling.” It wasn’t the same once Draper awoke from his induced coma and returned home on April 7, 2021.

Garraway claimed on The Andrew Marr Show that Draper couldn’t move much and communicated seldom. “He has a great memory.” “However, access to it is quite restricted,” she said. “He’s a long way from the Derek Draper you’re used to, Andrew, but he’s home and he’s alive.” He’s sound sleeping now.”
Derek Draper and Kate Garraway
Garraway and Draper initially met in the autumn of 2004 via a common acquaintance, Gloria De Piero, who used to work with her as GMTV’s political editor. They began dating soon after and married a year later. The wedding took place in London on September 10, 2005. Garraway subsequently told The Times that their wedding featured one unexpected guest: Strictly Come Dancing’s Brendan Cole.
She mistook Cole for the lover of one of the wedding guests but subsequently discovered that her husband had been getting dancing lessons from him in preparation for their big day. On March 10, 2006, Garraway and her spouse had their first child, daughter Darcey. Their family of three was extended by one when she gave birth to her son William on July 28, 2009. Garraway and Draper had planned to repeat their vows in 2020 to commemorate their 15th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, the plan did not go as planned since he was still in the hospital. Finding Derek, her documentary, earned a National Television Award in the Authored Documentary category only hours before their 16th wedding anniversary. The documentary showed how Garraway and her children dealt with Draper’s illness due to coronavirus.
