Ashton Irwin, the drummer for the Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer, was transported to the hospital on Sunday after experiencing stroke-like symptoms during their show. The performance in The Woodlands, Texas, where the band was performing as part of their current US tour, was interrupted short after Ashton Irwin became ill on stage. The drummer is recovering after being rushed to the hospital. He has promised to return to the stage in the near future.
The band provided an update on Ashton Irwin’s condition through Instagram stories. They stated:
“Last night’s concert was cut short owing to a medical problem during the performance.” Ashton was transported to a nearby hospital for testing and a medical examination after suffering bodily complaints. Fortunately, and most importantly, [Ashton] is doing good and healing quickly. We regret to all of the fans that were there for the event being cut short.”
I suffered from an intense migraine brought on by exhaustion and overheating onstage which made me loose my vision and gave me symptoms of stroke in the left side of my body. So the decision was to end the show there and then.

Fans learn about Ashton Irwin’s illness
Irwin, who looks to have recovered slightly, turned to Twitter to update followers on his status. He mentioned:
“I suffered from a strong migraine brought forth by stress and overheating, which caused me to lose [sic] my eyesight and gave me stroke symptoms in the left side of my body.”
The drummer went on to clarify his condition:
“It’s always fantastic to put on a tremendous enthusiastic concert in whatsoever location we’re given.” Unfortunately, my body failed out due to heat fatigue this time. I was crying in the ambulance because I felt I had let many people down. “I’m taking care of myself and getting some rest right now.”
Irwin concluded his remarks by thanking followers and saying:
“This is what a dehydrated drummer pays when he braves the Texas heat.” “All will be done right in terms of tickets and rescheduling,” he stated. “I adore you.” Thank you for your support. I’ll be back on stage as soon as possible! X.”
The band noted on their Instagram stories that they will have to postpone their forthcoming gig in Arkansas on June 28 due to medical advice from physicians. The date has been changed to July 26 and will be the last stop on their North American tour.
“The new date is July 26th, thus Rogers, AR will be our last gig of the North American TMH tour!” We apologize for disrupting your plans, but we guarantee that for those of you who can still make it, we will put on the performance of your life. In the meanwhile, please join us in allowing Ash to rest and return to full fitness… 5SOS, loads of love.”
5SOS5 is the latest album by Five Seconds of Summer
The band is now on its North American tour, which was originally scheduled for 2020 but was pushed back due to the pandemic. They will also release their fifth studio album, 5SOS5, in September. Before unveiling the title of their next EP, the band released a new song called Me, Myself, and I on May 11. “Complete Mess and Take My Hand” were among the hits that preceded the song.
Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Luke Hemmings, lead guitarist Michael Clifford, bassist Calum Hood, and drummer Ashton Irwin created 5 Seconds of Summer in 2011. The foursome originally gained notoriety as YouTube celebrities before joining the now-defunct One Direction band on their Take Me Home tour.
