Youn Yuh-jung, a veteran Korean actor, recently disclosed that she was approached to audition for the character she played in Apple TV+’s original Pachinko. The actor, who has worked in the entertainment industry for almost five decades, went on to say that auditioning for a part after so many years as an actor was pointless.

At a recent Pachinko news conference, Youn Yuh-Jung stated:

“After decades of performing, it didn’t make sense for me to audition.”

She also stated that while she was aware of how performers in America auditioned for parts, she was not used to going through the same process as a Korean. When Youn Yuh-Jung was approached to audition for Pachinko, he was surprised.

Youn Yuh-Jung said why she was taken aback when she was approached to audition for the part, saying:

“In our profession, if I auditioned and the show said, “We don’t believe you’re suited for this job,” people will say, “Youn Yuh-jung failed the audition.” I couldn’t afford to risk my 50-year career for this one job, so I tossed the eight screenplays that arrived at the front door.”

After verifying that she would get the part, she disclosed that she had taped the audition for the show. She stated, ”

“I was assured that wasn’t the case, and they invited me to take part in the theater, which I did. I believe there were a total of six auditions, but I only attended four of them.”

The Apple TV+ original Pachinko is based on Min Jin Lee’s New York Times Bestseller of the same period. The show will follow the life of a Korean family who emigrates to Japan in a period fiction drama. Lee Min-ho, Jin Ha, and Kim Min-ha are among the cast members of the web series, which will premiere on the streaming platform on March 25.

The show’s fascinating teaser teases Lee Min-ho in an avatar he’s never seen before. After his appearance in the SBS K-drama The King: Eternal Monarch, fans of the actor will be able to watch him on television.
