Marina Lu and Hsiao-Tsiun Ma welcomed Yo-Yo Ma into the world on October 7, 1955, in Paris, France. The family of Yo-Yo Ma is Chinese. His father played the violin. At Nanjing National Central University, Hsiao-Tsiun Ma was a music professor. His mother sang in a band.
