Quantavious Grier, popularly known as Unfoonk, Young Thug’s brother, was jailed on May 4, 2023, after pleading guilty to a high-profile RICO case. He has been charged with illegal possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a person employed by or associated with a violent street gang.
According to Atlanta Police, Grier was caught at a traffic check at 4 p.m. when the scent of smoked marijuana emanated from the car. A firearm was recovered when police officers were searching the car. Grier’s situation worsened when tint was discovered on the vehicle’s windows and he failed to wear his seatbelt while driving. Grier’s bail was not accepted when he was hauled to court, but he is scheduled to appear in court again, but no exact date has been set as of yet. The arrest may have an impact on the plea agreement he accepted in December of last year.
Unfoonk pled guilty to violating the RICO Act In December 2022
Unfoonk admitted to one count of RICO Act violation and one count of theft by receiving stolen goods. According to the plea agreement, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison and 10 years on probation. He was not authorized to contact Young Thug or the other defendants until the case was completed, according to the terms of his probation. Unfoonk was also sentenced to conduct 750 hours of community service and to adhere to a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. He was also prohibited from owning a gun.
Unfoonk also revealed in an Instagram Live session that the agreement put certain restrictions on the terms he could use in his song. While accepting his plea agreement, he was accused of snitching on his brother, but he disputed the claims in his Instagram Story, writing:
“Damn people think I lied about my own brother smh.” I’m not even fenna entertain any of that, peace and blessings.”
According to the court filings, Unfoonk was required to testify if the parties engaged in the RICO case contacted him.
Young Thug was arrested on RICO accusations In 2022
In May 2022, Young Thug was arrested with Gunna and accused of racketeering and gang activities. The charges included RICO Act violations and felony involvement in violent street gang activities. Prosecutors say Young Thug was the leader of a street gang named Young Slime Life (YSL). Thug was not the only one detained; from January 24, 2013, and May 8, 2022, 27 people were allegedly engaged in illicit acts.
