Jeff Passan has been married to Sara Rieke since 2007 and they have two children. Sara, his wife, is a trained nurse who also serves as a supporting wife and mother. Jeff Passan is an ESPN baseball journalist and the author of The Arm: Inside the Billion-Dollar Mystery of Sports’ Most Valuable Commodity. Passan attended Syracuse University after graduating from Solon High School. He wrote for The Daily Orange while at Syracuse and eventually began covering Fresco State basketball. Before joining Yahoo, he began covering baseball for The Kansas City Star in 2004.
After 13 years at Yahoo!, he joined ESPN’s Baseball team in January 2019 and has been on Sports Center and The Rich Eisen Show, among other shows. Furthermore, Jeff was selected for the National Sports Media Association’s 2021 National Sportswriter of the Year, as well as the Dan Jenkins Medal for Excellence in Sportswriting in 2022.

Sara Passan (née Raike) was the daughter of Mary Beth Martz and Otto Raike. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Rockhurst University. She was also a nurse at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. However, the specifics of her present employment situation remain unclear. Jeff and Sara exchanged wedding vows on January 6, 2007, at Ellen Scripps Browning Park in California.
The Passan couple honeymooned in Cancun, Mexico, after their wedding. The skilled journalist and his wife, Sara, are the delighted parents of two kids. Their eldest son, Jack, is 15, and their youngest, Luke (born April 2012), is 11. Jack and Luke are close to their grandparents, with whom they regularly travel.
Jeff Passan Suffered a Back Injury
The ESPN MLB expert claimed on Twitter that he had fractured his back in a yard-work mishap on July 17, 2023. He said the injuries happened when a huge tree branch fell on him when he was cleaning up after a major storm in Kansas City.
“The good news is that I still have use of my arms, legs, and Twitter fingers,” Passan added. “The bad news is that I have a broken back.”
Fortunately, even while recovering, Passan will have the tools he needs to carry out his reporting duties. Furthermore, he expressed gratitude to his family, friends, and everyone at ESPN for their support, as well as the care and attention of the medical personnel at KU Med. He also mockingly tweeted an image of a shattered tree on his Twitter feed a day after the injury.
