He grew up in a black hood.
Normand was born in the city of New Orleans. He grew raised in a black community with his elder brother. Normand claims his father purchased a derelict home on Esplanade Avenue in the French Quarter. Because his father had a difficult background, he always wanted to achieve something of himself, therefore he purchased the house at the lowest price, he claimed. It was a miserable way to live since everyone assumed they were wealthy because they were the white family in the mansion in the black neighborhood, and they were regularly robbed. When they returned home from school, they often found their door open. It was infuriating and upsetting, so they were never at ease.
The most terrifying aspect was the face-to-face crime. Many times, large black kids snatched his bike. As a white child growing up as the only white kid in that area, you’re in the minority, and if you leave the neighborhood, you’re back as a white person, and being in the minority stinks, he added.
What are his parents’ thoughts on his comedy?
Normand portrayed his parents as decent, generous, and considerate but not out to lunch since they were workaholics during Lex Fridman’s show. As a result, getting a lot out of them was challenging. He said that his father was an angry guy because he had a strange upbringing and was constantly trying to provide, but it was difficult for him, so he took it out on whomever he could.
Having said that, he noted that his parents were wonderful and that his father always placed them first, but he has no idea how good they were at socializing. They were almost like coworkers. Normand told Impose Magazine that he began stand-up comedy in New Orleans before relocating to New York. He feared he’d never be able to accomplish it. Then a coworker suggested he attempt stand-up. His buddy was doing something that night, so he went with him, but he didn’t have the courage. He got drunk and did it after a week. He mentioned yeast infection, he said. When questioned about his parents’ reactions to his humor in an interview with Impose Magazine, Normand said that his parents had never discussed it with him. He believes it would be too embarrassing for them to say, “You are the creative one, you do what you do, even if we don’t like the joke.” He recalls producing a film in a film school. In the end, he claimed he created a movie that his mother didn’t like, which was uncomfortable. However, he believes they are OK with his humor.
He confesses to cheating on his ex-girlfriend
Normand had a 12-year relationship with an ex-girlfriend. They were high school sweethearts. They were both artists who moved to New York together. Normand discussed his painful break-up and how he was found cheating on Bert Kreischer’s show. Everything was OK between them, according to Normand. They were sharing a small shoebox in Manhattan.
But it gradually became strained since they were both artists and broke. Then he was on his way. He was staying at motels while traveling abroad. Normand confessed to cheating on his ex-girlfriend every weekend because they were bored of one other. He said he was nearly caught many times, but each time he denied it until his ex-girlfriend read his phone message.
Normand was in the shower when his phone rang with a message. He didn’t have a password at the time, so his ex-girlfriend accessed the message. There was a photo of a nude girl. She then read the thread post describing what they did and everything. He claims that when she found out, she kicked the bathroom door and tossed the phone in the tub. They attempted to sort things out after the event, but it was never the same. Six months later, it was all over. He subsequently moved out but continued to pay the rent, attempting to be a nice man in the face of remorse, he said.
Relationship
Normand is married to fellow comedian Mae Planert, with whom he previously had a love connection. They were engaged on Martha’s Vineyard in 2021 and married the following November in a private ceremony in New Orleans. They have no children as of yet.
