Madame Web

According to Deadline, Dakota Johnson, the star of the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, is in discussions to portray Madame Web in Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff world. S.J. Clarkson, the director of Netflix X Marvel’s Defenders and Jessica Jones, is also scheduled to direct the project. The script was written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, as previously reported. The project will very certainly be a live-action feature picture. According to Marvel insider Charles Murphy’s January tweet, the film will begin production in 2022. If Johnson is cast, it will be the first female-led Marvel X Sony picture.

Dakota Johnson has been cast as Madame Web in Sony’s upcoming film ‘MADAME WEB.’ This is one of several Marvel character-based projects that Sony is working on. Previously, flicks such as Kraven the Hunter and Black Cat grabbed headlines.

Who is Madame Web In Spider-Man?

Cassandra Webb, often known as Madame Web, is a psychically gifted blind woman. Since her birth, she has been blind and suffers from a neurological ailment, myasthenia gravis. Her illness granted her considerable psychic skills in the comics, which included telepathy and foreknowledge of future events. The character can also astrally project herself and possessed mind-altering abilities.

Webb made her debut in the 1980’s Amazing Spider-Man #210 and helped Spider-Man identify some crooks. Since her introduction, she has become a knowledgeable consultant of sorts to the web crawler and sometimes aids him with her premonitions. The psychic mutant acts as a guide to Peter Parker and warns him of the repercussions of his choices. In the comics, her ability to know about the future allowed her to assist in averting assassinations alongside Spider-Man.

Unlike typical super-powered humans, Madame Web does not combat criminals physically. In the comics, Cassandra Webb’s neurological illness forced her to become paraplegic. Webb’s late husband Jonathan made her a wheelchair with built-in life-support systems for her survival. However, the character eventually obtained immortality when she attended the “Gathering of Five ceremonies.”

Theories regarding the future film

While Cassandra Webb is often shown as an elderly lady in the comics, Sony’s film will likely go on a different path. It is also conceivable that Dakota Johnson’s probable rendition of the role would be of Julia Carpenter and not Cassandra Webb. In the comics, Carpenter was first presented as a version of Spider-Woman, who subsequently took on the identity of Madame Web. However, it is also conceivable that Sony may choose for a younger version of Web in the plot.

In October of last year, Sony added two “Untitled Sony/Marvel Universe” movies to their release calendar for 2023. The unnamed projects are set to release on June 23, 2023, and October 6, 2023. At the time, various rumors claimed that one of the dates would be Venom 3 or Morbius 2. However, now it looks that at least one of the dates will be the next Madame Web movie.
