Jim and Katie Leyland have been married for nearly three decades. They are delighted to be the parents of two children. Jim Leyland is a retired American professional baseball manager and former player who was born on December 15, 1944. Leyland has been the manager of many Major League Baseball clubs, including the Pittsburgh Pirates, Florida Marlins, Colorado Rockies, and Detroit Tigers. From 1990 to 1992, he led the Pirates to three straight National League Championship Series (NLCS) appearances. He also led the Florida Marlins to a World Series title in 1997. Under his direction, the three-time Manager of the Year led Team USA to win the 2017 World Baseball Classic.

Jim Leyland and Katie Leyland have been happily married for more than 35 years. Patrick and Kellie are the delighted parents of two children. Jim had married Joanna Grow before marrying Katie, but they divorced after just a few years. Katie O’Connor, the daughter of a steel salesman and a housewife, was about to finish her master’s degree in sports administration when she was hired as the Pirates’ events coordinator in 1986.
Katie met Jim Leyland, who had just divorced, during her time with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jim was attracted to Katie from the outset and felt he wanted to pursue a relationship with her. Jim and Katie married after a year of dating. Despite the difficulty of an untimely miscarriage, the couple found pleasure in the arrival of their children. Throughout Jim’s management career, which led him to several locales, the Leyland family was mostly headquartered in Pittsburgh.
Baseball Hall of Fame in 2024
Jim Leyland, the famous Major League Baseball manager, was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday night. This honor was bestowed to him by a 16-member group known as the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee for Managers, Executives, and Umpires, which meets every three years. Leyland received 15 votes out of a possible 16. Former player and manager Lou Piniella just missed admission into the Hall of Fame for the second time, falling short by one vote.
On Sunday evening, the Hall of Fame announced the vote results. Leyland shared a sweet moment after getting the call, tweeting a photo of himself in his bedroom with his wife, Katie. He finished his managerial career with a regular-season record of 1,769-1,728 (.506) and a playoff record of 44-40 (.524). Before becoming a manager, he played seven seasons in minor league baseball as a catcher and third baseman from 1964 to 1970.
