Lauren Cook, John Cook’s 32-year-old daughter, was a standout college volleyball player. Cook had the opportunity to coach his daughter when she switched from UCLA from 2010 to 2012. Lauren opted to return home after failing to fit into LA society, but it wasn’t a horrible choice. Her volleyball prowess shone brightly wherever she went, whether it was Lincoln, UCLA, or Nebraska.
Lauren, on the other hand, opted not to pursue a career as a professional volleyball player. Lauren, the eldest child of Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball head coach, may be heard on Huskers Radio Network discussing her favorite sport with her father. The father-daughter team recently reunited for another episode, this time to discuss the hiring of three-time Olympian Jordan Larson as an assistant coach.
Lauren Cook, John Cook’s Daughter, Is a Former Volleyball Player
Lauren Cook, John Cook’s daughter, started her volleyball career at Lincoln Pius X. Lauren was a standout player who helped Pius to three consecutive Class B state championships. Lauren, John and Wendy Cook’s eldest child was born in 1991 and is 32 years old. Lauren was selected to the first-team all-state in each of her final three seasons at Lincoln.
She was also named an All-American by Volleyball Magazine and established a state record with 4,399 assists while playing setter. Lauren attended UCLA after graduating from Lincoln and continued her volleyball career. Lauren may have only played one year of volleyball at UCLA, but she made an impression. She won the AVCA National Freshman of the Year award in 2009 after averaging 10.69 assists, 2.44 digs, 0.77 kills, and 0.40 blocks per set. She was also the first Bruins player to win the honor. Lauren attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln after leaving UCLA. Lauren had to leave UCLA because of academic concerns. The event planning major was not offered at UCLA, and it was added at Nebraska during Lauren’s sophomore year.
Lauren said that LA culture also played a factor in her decision to return home. Lauren, a self-described small-town Nebraska kid, went on to play for three years at Nebraska. Lauren played setter at Nebraska with two-time All-American Sydney Anderson. Lauren was selected co-captain and first-team All-Big Ten in her senior year in 2012. She received multiple honors while at Nebraska and is still associated with the Huskers. Lauren co-hosts the podcast Kicking Back with the Cooks with her father. The podcast is shared with listeners on the YouTube channel Nebraska Huskers. Lauren married Jason West in 2018, and the pair had a daughter, according to Lauren’s Facebook profile.
Meet John Cook’s Son Taylor Cook
Taylor Cook, John Cook’s son, has kept himself out of the public eye. The former athlete was the youngest child of a Nebraska women’s volleyball coach. Taylor’s sister was a standout volleyball player at Lincoln Pius, therefore Taylor was a football player as well. Taylor was given a second shot at senior year at Lincoln in 2012 after missing the 2011-12 academic year due to stress fractures in his lower back. Taylor told the Lincoln Journal Star in 2012 that he dropped baseball due to lower back concerns but intended to join the golf team the following spring.
Taylor also said that during the hiatus, he obtained his pilot’s license and traveled to Europe with his father. Previously, in an interview, John confessed that attending Taylor’s events was always difficult owing to their clashing schedules. Taylor resided in Boise, Idaho, according to an interview with the volleyball coach published by Big 10 Central in 2019.
