Making the Cut, the famous competition design program, premiered the first two binge-worthy episodes of its fresh new season on Amazon Prime Video on August 18, 2022, at 7 p.m. ET. The program features 10 candidates who compete to establish their fashion companies abroad. The program is hosted by Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn.
Emily Bargeron was one of the competition competitors that displayed her creations. The Making the Cut competitor said in her introduction that her grandma was her greatest motivation. Mamie Ruth, her apparel line, is named after her grandmother. The Savannah, Georgia native customized her ensembles, but she fell short of impressing judges Nicole Richie, design director of House of Harlow 1960, and Jeremy Scott, creative director of Moschino.
Emily Bargeron, a Making the Cut participant, holds a degree in fashion.
Emily Bargeron, an entrepreneur, and designer were born and reared in Savannah, Georgia, in a close-knit family. When she was a child, the gifted candidate discovered her love of design and fashion while playing with gowns in her grandmother’s wardrobe. Emily earned a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion or Apparel Design from Georgia Southern University before working as a Pagination Supervisor and Graphic Designer for the Statesboro Herald. After her designs were well received during Charleston Fashion Week in 2009, she chose to pursue design full-time and launch her company, Mamie Ruth.
Emily mentioned in her introduction to Making the Cut that her fashion label Mamie Ruth was named after her grandmother, who she described as “95 and still kicking.” Speaking about her grandmother, the candidate claimed that she was always elegantly dressed, and Emily’s fashion sense was influenced by her.
Emily elaborated on her source of inspiration, saying:
“You had to be extremely creative and build these things for yourself because you liked clothing. I work hard to expand my brand. I’ve been doing it for over 10 years and am on the verge of creating the next worldwide brand.”
In Savannah, Georgia, the Making the Cut participant has three businesses: the Mamie Ruth store (a vintage shop), an ice cream shop/gift shop, and a custom T-shirt company. Emily creates clothing that is “extremely vibrant and reminds you of a time when you were joyful.”
Emily Bargeron was the first Making the Cut competitor to be eliminated.
The contenders had to put up two outfits as part of their evening-war project in the season premiere, which would be shown as part of a catwalk event on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Check out the 10 designers that competed for a chance to win $1 million and a mentorship with Amazon Fashion. While the other entrants displayed a broad range of styles, colors, patterns, textures, and designs, Emily chose a rainbow-colored tiered skirt, which the judges felt did not meet the project’s criteria. The experts said the two-piece suit was “too daytime” and not appropriate for nighttime wear.
Although the colors of her second accessible jumpsuit were beautiful, the judges on Making the Cut believed that the waistline destroyed the design sense and “felt cheap.” The candidate agreed with the remarks and asked the judges to give her another opportunity. Heidi, on the other hand, announced that Emily “didn’t make the cut” and was therefore removed from the competition.
The Making the Cut winner will get mentorship from Amazon Fashion, the opportunity to sell out a collection in the Making the Cut shop, and $1 million to invest in their company. They will also have the opportunity to design new color variations and related products for the shop. Making the Cut Season 3’s first two episodes are now available on Amazon Prime Video. The following two episodes will air on Thursday, August 25, 2022.
