Fred Hoiberg’s wife, Carol Hoiberg, is from Iowa and met him in high school. The two married in 1996 and have four children. Carol Hoiberg has seen everything. She was with Fred when the Pacers picked him into the NBA. She was also with him when his ten-season playing career terminated due to open heart surgery.
But when his playing career ended in 2005, Hoiberg started coaching at Iowa State in 2010. Hoiberg joined the Chicago Bulls after five seasons, signing a five-year deal for $25 million. After a 5-19 start to the 2018 season, the NBA dismissed him, and a year later, he was hired as the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ head coach.
Meet Fred Hoiberg’s Wife: Meet Carol Hoiberg
Carol Hoiberg, Fred Hoiberg’s wife, is an Ames, Iowa native who has been married to the basketball coach for 27 years. Carol has published many family photos on her Instagram account, the most recent being from Christmas. The two began dating while attending Ames High School, and their love story continued when they enrolled at Iowa State University. Carol’s father, Denis McGee, and Fred’s father were both professors at Iowa State.
The pair has experienced many highs and lows together. Fred was still an NBA player in the early 2000s, playing for the Timberwolves until being forced to retire prematurely due to an enlarged aortic root. Fred had known he had an enlarged bicuspid aortic valve since his college days. However, a month before surgery in 2005, he discovered that it had developed to the point that it needed treatment.
Carol discovered her husband lying face down in a pool of blood the night after his first open heart surgery in 2005. She quickly dialed 911, and physicians determined that he had fluid accumulation in his heart region. In 2015, the basketball coach had another open heart operation. Fred had his pacemaker batteries updated the year before that treatment, in 2014. However, there have been no medical issues for the coach subsequently. Carol enjoys posting tribute notes to her husband and children on her social media accounts. Last year, she published a heartfelt message on her 27th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Hoiberg captioned the image, “27 years today!” When you marry your closest friend, time seems to fly by! “I love you, babe!”
Fred and Carol Hoiberg Share Four Kids
The basketball coach and his wife have four children: three boys (including twins) and one girl. Paige Hoiberg, the couple’s eldest child, is their daughter. Paige Hoiberg was born on June 20, 1997, and graduated from the University of Kansas. She previously worked as a marketing intern for the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA and as an office assistant for Kansas’ Men’s Basketball Office. Paige began working as a property assistant at Learfield IMG College in 2019, after her graduation. She spent a year there before joining Big Ten Network as a sales planner. She was promoted to supervisor a year later, but last year she began working as an associate sales representative for Stryker, a medical technology business. She is on Instagram but has kept her account secret.
Fred and Carol had their second child, Jack Hoiberg, on March 11, 1999. Jack followed in his father’s footsteps and enrolled at Michigan State University in 2017. However, Jack did not receive much playing time at Michigan State and transferred to the University of Texas Arlington after finishing his senior year. In 2021, he graduated from Michigan with a degree in communication. Jack scored 85 points in 25 games and averaged 3.2 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game during his one season at UTA. Since 2022, Jack has worked as a basketball operations video analyst with Spurs Sports & Entertainment.
Carol and Fred Hoiberg Twins
Carol gave birth to twins Charlie and Samuel Hoiberg on March 21, 2003. Charlie and Samuel have pursued separate careers, with Samuel preferring to continue in his father’s footsteps. Charlie is now earning a bachelor’s degree at Texas Christian University. He is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and the Vice President of Recruitment. Samuel, on the other hand, has enrolled at the University of Nebraska and plays basketball there.
Samuel, a guard, played 21 games in 2022 as a redshirt freshman, averaging 4.1 points on 55% shooting and 1.8 rebounds per game. Samuel’s Instagram feed is mostly dedicated to his basketball career. He is presently dating Bella Gregg, a Nebraska Cornhuskers cheerleader.
