Who Is Carlos Anthony From “Superchef Grudge Match”?

Carlos Anthony

Carlos Anthony, a celebrity chef, will appear in the forthcoming Food Network reality series Superchef Grudge Match 2023. Anthony will battle against mentor and Bravo TV personality Brian Malarkey, who will face off against his own pupil in the February 7 debut of the reality series. Superchef Grudge Match 2023, hosted by celebrity chef, restaurateur, and entrepreneur Darnell Fergusson, will include a face-off between the opposing cooks to resolve their hostile disagreements. The winner will get a $10,000 cash reward, a valuable knife from the vanquished chef, and lifelong bragging rights over their opponent.

According to Food Network’s official summary of the episode titled Defending Domination:

“Darnell “SuperChef” Ferguson brings two world-class culinary matches to the center ring to resolve long-running food feuds. In the first bout, Chef Carlos Anthony challenges Chef Brian Malarkey, his mentor of over ten years, to demonstrate that he has finally overtaken the master.

Meet Chef Carlos Anthony, a San Diego-based chef who has won many gourmet reality television shows.

Carlos Anthony, a 36-year-old American chef, has worked in the culinary field for over 16 years. Carlos is the chief chef of Herb & Wood in San Diego, and he previously worked for nine years at Hillcrest’s artisan sausage cafe Salt and Cleaver. Over the years, the San Diego-based celebrity chef has gathered tremendous culinary skills and has learned a great deal from a mentor, seasoned restaurateur, and Top Chef legend Brian Malarkey.

Carlos was born in Tucson, Arizona, and started cooking in his grandmother’s kitchen. He finished law school and opted to follow his love for cooking. His first employment as a chef was at Old Chicago Pizza, a neighborhood pizza joint. In addition, he worked at Searsucker and Taco Asylum Gourmet Tacos in Costa Mesa, where he polished his abilities.

Carlos started his own restaurant, Salt and Cleaver, in 2013, where he also served as executive chef. Later, he closed his restaurant and went to work at Brian Malarkey’s Herb & Wood in Little Italy. Chef Malarkey and his crew were really helpful to Carlos. After being a member of the opening Searsucker team, he worked for Malarkey’s fabric-themed restaurants – Searsucker, Burlap, and Gabardine – for many years.

Carlos Anthony made his television debut in Cutthroat Kitchen season 7 episode 2 (February 22, 2015). He eventually won the round, collecting $9,900, and defeated seasoned judge and chef Jet Tila, who is also expected to appear in the next Food Network series.

The Tournament of Champions cook-off between Carlos Anthony and Jet Tila was labeled a “David vs. Goliath” fight. Carlos was later cast in the Discovery Channel series Chopped: Next Generation in 2021, as well as a food program called Jackfruit Kitchen.

Carlos’s specialty dish at Herb & Wood is oxtail gnocchi. Carlos commented to Beyondish about the delicacy:

“Our oxtail gnocchi is a straightforward recipe that takes four people and three days to prepare. It’s not the most original meal since it’s just oxtail and gnocchi, but it takes time and effort to prepare. The meticulous preparation of each item is what makes the meal so delectable.

He went on to say:

The roasted oysters and bone marrow are absolute luxuries and a perfect example of Herb & Wood’s extravagant character. It’s the kind of cuisine that makes you forget about the rest of the world, where you can eat delicious oysters cooked with horseradish butter and finished with bone marrow. Carlos Anthony currently controls a significant and profitable restaurant franchise with around 15 sites throughout the United States. The chef from San Diego is not yet married, but he is now seeing Allison O’Neil. Carlos Anthony initially exposed his relationship in January 2021 through an Instagram post. His net worth is believed to be about one million dollars.

Carlos Anthony will compete in Superchef Grudge Match 2023 among several new contenders.

Darnell “SuperChef” Ferguson, the co-host of Worst Cooks in America, will choreograph competitions between competing chefs who have feuds to settle in a single face-off in the series, which is expected to launch on February 7, 2023. Chef Antonia Lofaso has challenged Jet Tila to a rematch of their semifinal Tournament of Champions battle, which Jet won by one point.

Future episodes will include a culinary commentator fight between Justin Warner and Simon Majumdar, a rematch of the Iron Chef Gauntlet competition between Stephanie Izard and Shota Nakajima, and the resolution of a social media quarrel between Drew Bent of San Diego and Claudia Sandoval.

Brian Malarkey and Carlos Anthony have opened eight restaurants together. Carlos is fed up with doing all of the cooking while Brian gets all of the praise. But does Carlos have what it takes to leap out of the shadows and capture the spotlight, breaking his stereotype of being second only to his mentor?
