Early years

Landry was raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is the fifth and youngest child of his parents. As the son of a sugarcane farmer, he was always on a tractor, even on weekends, making sure the sugarcane fields were ready. It taught him at a young age that he didn’t want to be a sugarcane farmer, but it also ingrained in him a strong work ethic, Landry said in an interview. He attended Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

He aspired to play basketball at Louisiana State University. Landry played basketball in high school at Catholic High. He had a long-held ambition to play basketball for Louisiana State University as a child. He tried out for his freshman squad after high school but was cut. But he didn’t give up and kept training at the nearby park every day until he made it in his sophomore year. He was a walk-on from 1997 until 2000.

What sparked the concept for Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux?

According to Landry, he only played seven minutes in his senior season, so he realized early on in his career that he wasn’t going to play in the NBA and be paid to do so. That’s when the concept for Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux brew came to me. While traveling across the globe as members of the LSU basketball team, he and his walk-on teammate Jack Warner found the need for something that kind of brought Louisiana, athletics, and their narrative to the forefront.

They began scribbling on the bev sheets on the way home after the University of Tennessee game. When they returned to LSU, they discussed their proposal with their entrepreneurship professor, who completed his business plan assignment every year. They only had one place in mind where they could flip burgers and sling beer and make a living, so they began working at the restaurant. They began developing business strategies and enlisted the help of certain investors. Six banks declined loans, but they continued to play with a walk-on mindset. On their seventh effort, they were successful in obtaining the loan. The Walk-On started franchising in 2014 and has 75 sites in 13 states.

He is resigning from his role as CEO.

Landry is leaving down as CEO of Walk-On’s sports, Bistreaux, and bar business, which he founded two decades ago. COO Scott Taylor, who has been with the Walk’s On for a decade, will take his position. Landry said in his statement that Scott is the right candidate to take over as CEO of the brand as it approaches its 20th year, as he and Scott have established a cultural team focused on producing best-in-class support outcomes for its franchise partners over the previous twelve years. Since 2010, Scott has served as president and chief operating officer.
