Next Level Chef returns to Fox on Sunday, February 12 for its second season. The new season will feature 18 candidates split into six-person teams competing for a $250,000 grand prize under the tutelage of Gordon Ramsay, Nyesha Arrington, and Richard Blais. Alex Morizio, a 48-year-old home chef, is one of six members of team Nyesha Arrington. He is the ICC Intensivist Group’s Regional Medical Director in Miami. His role, according to his LinkedIn page, is to “review and supervise critical care unit procedures at underserved institutions.” He is also in charge of recruiting ICU doctors and fostering connections among caregivers. Alex is also in charge of quality measures at his hospital, such as sepsis fatality rates and ICU length of stay.
During the COVID-19 epidemic, Next Level Chef candidate Alex Morizio started his own food series on Instagram.
Alex Morizio was born in Brooklyn and presently resides in Miami. In 1993, he graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Alex then enrolled at Ross University School of Medicine to pursue his doctorate in medicine, from which he graduated in 2002. He subsequently completed his training at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, where he determined he wanted to work in the intensive care unit. He said in an interview:
“I graduated from an internal medicine residency program and fell in love with ICU medicine right away, so I went on to undertake a three-year pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Maimonides.”
Morizio relocated to the south in 2008 to become the Regional Medical Director of the ICC Intensivist Group. He was also interested in the financial side of the health profession, so he attended the University of Miami and earned an MBA in Health Management and Policy. Alex used to perform in Miami-area comedy clubs before the pandemic, and when the clubs had to shut down due to the lockdown, she decided to start a cookery series on Instagram Live. In an interview, he stated:
“I still wanted to amuse people and be connected to them. So one night, on a whim, I switched on the camera and everyone began watching the cooking program.”
Cooking With Al premiered its first episode on April 22, 2020, and he publishes new episodes every Tuesday on his Instagram account. He also hosts the Take a Sip podcast.
