Who Are Lawrence Dobbins And Mya Grounds? Meet JK Dobbins Parents

JK Dobbins

Lawrence Dobbins and Mya Grounds gave birth to JK Dobbins on December 17, 1998. Despite being high school sweethearts, they never married. Furthermore, Dobbins’ mother was roughly 18 years old when he was born. JK  Dobbins is a running back in the National Football League (NFL) who currently plays for the Baltimore Ravens. He played collegiate football at Ohio State before being picked in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Ravens.

Meet JK Dobbins’s Mother Mya Grounds

Dobbins inherited his mother’s strong work ethic. Mya Grounds, although a high school athlete who participated in volleyball and basketball, was unable to pursue university athletics owing to the duties of parenthood. Despite this, she completed her education by enrolling in courses at the University of Houston and graduating with a finance degree. She now combines her profession as an IRS accountant with the obligations of parenting her younger son, Kance, and other children.

Lawrence Dobbins was the standout running back at La Grange High School, where J.K. thrived. On the track and field squad, he was also a great sprinter. Lawrence’s pace led him to Lincoln University, a Division III HBCU in Philadelphia, where he was a member of the 4100-meter relay team that came within a whisker of capturing the national title in 1999. He returned to Texas, however, and enrolled at Blinn institution, a small institution with a football team.

Despite originally walking on to the football squad, he was unable to play and finally resigned. Lawrence encountered difficulties once football did not work out for him. He died from a stroke while at Bartlett State Prison on February 22, 2014, while J.K. was just 15 years old. Lawrence was convicted of property theft and sentenced to two years in jail in 2012.

Taking on His Father’s Legacy

Despite his difficulties, J.K. maintained a strong relationship with his father, who had voiced his wish for his son not to follow in his footsteps. J.K. and his father enjoyed a close relationship until his father’s unexpected demise. J.K. often remained with his father and grandparents, C.L. and Rita, during this period while his mother, Mya, worked or went to school. Coping with the loss of his father was very difficult, but Dobbins was determined not to let this sorrow derail his aspirations.

Football became a source of pleasure for him and a means of coping with his loss. He became a better player than his father and enjoyed football evenings as much as his father did during his playing days. Dobbins’ father’s death at an early age drove him to develop faster than many of his classmates, and every time he carries the football, he takes a bit of his father’s legacy with him.
