This forthcoming concert, according to the comic, will be:
“More nostalgic and emotionally cozy: no politics, lectures, or self-indulgences.”
Cummings said that she wanted to make a special with the challenge of making a comedy show with broad appeal that would be for everyone in an ever-expanding globe. Whitney Cummings: Jokes was shot in Newark, New Jersey, at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Jokes – Whitney Cummings What exactly is special about?
Whitney’s most recent comedy venture will see her try out quips that will appeal to a wide range of viewers. She feels that modern comedy skits are very subjective. They appeal to certain audiences while repelling others. This was the primary motivator for her choice to self-fund the project.
Whitney wanted total authority over her special. According to her current contract with Netflix, she will ultimately have authority over the form and medium in which her material is seen. Whitney Cummings had this to say about the special:
“I’m still curious about what brings us all together and what we have in common. Comedians are such masochists. Trying to discover anything on which we can all agree right now is probably a lunatic endeavor. But, given how contentious everything is, how apocalyptic the air is online, you only see the news you want to read, the viewpoints you’ve signed up to follow…”
She went on to say:
“On my show, I’m particularly interested in the incendiary and splitting hairs on the most volatile subjects. But when it comes to a special, you have to deliver on your promise: ‘I still expect this to make me laugh.'”
Triage Entertainment and Levity Productions are producing Whitney Cummings: Jokes. Along with Whitney, the show’s executive producers are Judi Marmel, Stephen Gordon Walker, John Bravakis, Nick Kurzon, and Marcus Raboy.
Whitney explained her intention to self-fund the comedy special:
“I’ve done four specials, and a lot of comedians I like told me, ‘If you can pay for it yourself, make it so you own it,…’
So, at the very least, I have some influence over the apparently weekly changes in the TV and streaming industry; those vicissitudes may continue, but at least I own the specials.”
She went on:
“You really want to be able to split it up in various ways according to how this new generation consumes humor, whether it’s five minutes on YouTube or one minute on TikTok or Reels,” she says.
