The streaming service emphasizes series whose followers binge and finish new seasons on release, according to Rachel Shukert, creator of The Baby-Sitters Club. This makes it challenging for series like this one, which isn’t as well-known, to flourish worldwide as megahits like Narcos and Money Heist.
Shukert blamed the show’s cancellation on Netflix’s skewed internal analytics, explaining how releasing at the same time as Squid Game changed audience patterns and demonstrated the importance of numbers:

“Does it matter if this program has a good audience but isn’t a huge smash, yet it’s adored by fans? I’m not sure. I believe we had the misfortune of releasing around the same time as Squid Game, which demonstrated to them the power of numbers. Last year’s numbers, which were completely respectable and successful, were suddenly seen in a new light. I don’t have access to a lot of this information, and in general, Netflix producers don’t have access to this information, so you’ll have to piece it together yourself.”

“[The show] appeals to a large number of female viewers because it meets them where they are. It isn’t up to grownups to tell youngsters who they are. It’s not really about the males, but they do develop crushes, which is a normal part of growing up. There’s something about stories for this age group that always feels like adult retrospect rather than what it’s like to be that age. We could make the females as clever, engaging, and mature as girls without making it all about how other people see them in The Baby-Sitters Club. It all comes down to how they view themselves.”
