Following Will Smith’s now-famous slap at the 94th Academy Awards, other shocking moments from previous awards seasons are being revisited.

While there were plenty of highlights at this year’s Oscars, from Ariana DeBose’s historic win to Coda taking home the night’s top prize, Smith’s actions overshadowed them. Following the Oscars 2022, the so-called “slap” has dominated the conversation.

Now, in a bid to somewhat vindicate Smith’s apparent actions, other celebrities who have made questionable choices at public events are in the spotlight. At the 1997 MTV Movie Awards, Jim Carrey kissed (or attempted to kiss) other celebrities in attendance.

Jim Carry Surprises Alicia Silverstone With An On-Screen Kiss

A young Alicia Silverstone was tapped to present the award for Best Comedic Performance at the 1997 MTV Movie Awards. Silverstone, who was only 20 years old at the time, was best known for her role as Cher Horowitz in the 1995 classic Clueless.

In the now-viral video, Silverstone is heard saying, “And the award goes to… Jim Carrey, The Cable Guy.” In this category, Carrey competed against Chris Farley, Janeane Garofalo, Eddie Murphy, and Robin Williams. In his acceptance speech, the then-35-year-old actor made no mention of planting a surprise kiss on Silverstone. The video can be viewed in its entirety here.

According to News.com.au, Alicia Silverstone felt “humiliated” by Jim Carrey’s actions at the awards show. They also claim that Carrey later apologized to Silverstone backstage.

What Did Jim Carrey Say About Oscar 2022?

The video of Carrey’s shocking kiss has resurfaced in light of his remarks about Will Smith’s actions at this year’s Oscars.

Carrey appeared on CBS This Morning on March 29th, 2022, and expressed his displeasure with Smith’s actions:

“I was sickened by the standing ovation [following Smith’s victory].” “Hollywood is just spineless in general, and it felt like this was a really clear indication that we weren’t the cool club anymore,” Carrey said.

Gayle King, the show’s host, then addressed Chris Rock’s refusal to press charges. Carrey responded, saying, “I would have announced this morning that I was suing Will for $200 million because that video is going to be there forever.” Other celebrities, such as Zoe Kravitz, who have commented on Smith’s actions, have also come under fire.
