Victor Cruz was born In Paterson, New Jersey, USA on November 11, 1986. Victor Walker was up in a gang- and drug-ridden Paterson as the son of African-American firefighter Michael Walker and Puerto Rican-born Blanca Cruz. He had previously noted that “In the city, a lot of crime happened, a lot of violence happened from time to time,” and later added that opportunities were scarce, particularly for young lads of his race. “Paterson was not the easiest place to grow up in.”
While they kept their son on a tight leash and were never married, his parents made sure he stayed out of trouble. Cruz’s father provided him with a lot of advice and encouragement, especially when it came to sports, even though his mother and grandmother were mostly responsible for raising him.
