Valerie Bertinelli was born in Willington Delamere to Andrew and Nancy Bertinelli. Her father is Italian, and her mother is English; she has three brothers named Patrick, Drew, and David. Because of her father’s job, the family moved around a lot, including Delaware, Louisiana, Oklahoma City, Claymont, Los Feliz, Shreveport, and Michigan.

Bertinelli studied acting at the Tami Lyn School of Artists while living in California. She grew up in a Catholic household and went to Granada High School.
