Valerie Bertinelli Divorced Tom Vitale Due To Irreconcilable Reasons

Valerie Bertinelli

Valerie Bertinelli’s ex-husband, Tom Vitale, has requested spousal support from the actress after the couple decided to divorce after 11-year marriage. According to People, the 58-year-old has petitioned Bertinelli for spousal support in court records filed on June 2 in Los Angeles Superior Court. Vitale, a financial professional, also asked the court to prevent Valerie Bertinelli from claiming spousal support and to examine the prenuptial agreement they agreed to in December 2010, before their 2011 wedding. According to court papers, the prenuptial agreement is still in full effect and binding on the parties.

Valerie Bertinelli alleged irreconcilable differences in her divorce from Tom Vitale.

The Wilderness Love actress filed for divorce from Vitale in May 2022 after filing for separation in November 2021, citing “irreconcilable disagreements.” After years of courtship, the Hot in Cleveland actress and Vitale married on New Year’s Day 2011 in Malibu, California. Bertinelli told People in January 2011 that after marrying Vitale, she felt “happier than ever.” She stated:

“I could have lived with Tom for the rest of my life without being married, but I wanted to call him “my husband.” I truly wanted to tell the individuals I care about how I feel about Tom.”

Bertinelli was married to late rock legend Eddie Van Halen from 1981 until 2007, and the couple had a son, musician Wolfgang Van Halen, who is 31 years old. The legendary guitarist died in October 2020 at the age of 65, after a stroke and a long battle with cancer. Valerie Bertinelli wrote in her book Enough Already: Learning to Love the Way I Am Today, released earlier this year, about her last moments with the late rock artist and her son.

“‘I love you,’ Ed says to Wolfie and me, and it’s the final things we utter to him before he quits breathing.”

Bertinelli told the magazine in January that her breakup with Vitale had nothing to do with her love for the late rocker and that they had ‘grown apart.’

“It has nothing to do with my feelings for Ed. I wish Tom all the best, and I’m sure he feels the same way about me.”

In her memoir, Bertinelli described her divorce from Vitale as difficult and complicated.

“We’ve strayed from the interests that brought us together and discovered that those disagreements can’t be mended. He is a nice guy who is dealing with many of the same difficulties that I am: What can he do to give his life meaning and purpose? Where can he find happiness? What does he care about? What has he discovered? And what will he do differently in the future? The paths we believed we were on shifted.”

Valerie Bertinelli began writing the book only a few weeks after Eddie Van Halen died on October 6, 2020, from cancer.
