Tyrann Mathieu was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 13, 1992. He attended St. Augustine High School and played high school football for the St. Augustine Purple Knights. Tyrann had 32 tackles, 5 interceptions, 1 sack, and 1 fumble recovery as a senior on the team.

Tyrann Mathieu accepted an athletic scholarship to Louisiana State University, where he played football for Les Miles’ LSU Tigers. Tyrann didn’t get much playing time as a freshman, but after an outstanding performance in the 2011 Cotton Bowl Classic, Tyrann was named the Most Outstanding Defensive Player of 2011.
