He attended Baylor University and received his bachelor’s degree in 1992. Trooper was more than just a college student; he was also an avid football player.

Taylor was a Baylor Bears defensive back from 1988 to 1991, concluding his career as the school’s leader in kickoff returns and return yardage. Taylor joined his alma mater’s coaching team as a graduate assistant for two years after leading the Bears to the 1991 Copper Bowl.

In 1994, after receiving his degree, he was appointed wide receivers coach by the squad. His wife is presently an associate dean of MSW education and clinical assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Social Work. She is a qualified clinical social worker with more than 25 years of experience dealing with various populations in alternative schools. Evi focuses on juvenile justice programs, hospitals, residential treatment facilities, and private practice. Dr. Taylor formerly served as the MSW Director and co-chair of Arkansas State University’s Social Work Department.

She was awarded the University Excellence in Teaching Award in 2017 and the University Excellence in Service Award in 2018. Furthermore, Dr. Taylor was profiled in Women in Higher Education in 2018. Dr. Taylor is on the board of directors for The Power of One or Two, Inc. Actually, it is a non-profit organization devoted to empowering, educating, and improving the lives of children and families via the provision of resources and opportunities. Dr. Taylor’s research interests include stereotypes and implicit prejudice, educational inequity, and sports-related mental health. Previously, Associate Head Coach and Running Backs Coach Trooper Taylor had accepted the post of Interim Head Coach for Duke Football. This shift in circumstances happened when David Cutcliffe left on November 28, 2021. Trooper Taylor had previously held the temporary job until Mike Elko was appointed on December 13, just short of two weeks later.

Taylor joined the Duke coaching staff in January 2019 and now works as the program’s assistant head coach, teaching the Blue Devil running backs. Taylor, who has an excellent coaching career spanning over 30 years, had a significant contribution to Auburn University’s 2010 BCS National Championship victory. His coaching experience includes 16 bowl games for institutions. Following Taylor’s temporary appointment, Athletics Director Nina King called a news conference to formally announce the decision. It also revealed the university’s intention to launch a nationwide search for the new head football coach for the team.
