Spider Webb and the Insects (which included Jeremy Levine of the Seeds) signed with Del-Fi Records in 1959, but the band disbanded before releasing any records. The Blue Velvets, led by John, rallied to Tom’s aid.
Tom eventually joined the band, and in 1961 and 1962, the trio recorded three songs for Orchestra Records (with Tom on lead vocals). By the mid-1960s, the Golliwogs had rebranded and signed to Fantasy Records, with Tom and John sharing lead vocal duties.
After leaving the band, Fogerty began performing and recording as a solo artist. Among his lesser-known hits were “Goodbye Media Man,” “Cast The First Stone,” “Joyful Resurrection,” and “B.A.R.T.” He remained with Fantasy Records, and his self-titled debut album, Tom Fogerty, reached No. 78 on the 1971 Billboard 200. The 1974 follow-up album featured John Fogerty, Stu Cook, and Doug Clifford. While John Fogerty recorded his parts separately, the song “Mystic Isle Avalon” features the band in its entirety. It was John’s sole appearance on the album and the final time all four CCR members appeared on the same studio album. Tom’s fourth studio album, released in 1974, also featured Cook and Clifford.
