Treat Williams, the son of Marian and Richard Norman Williams, was born on December 1, 1951. His father, Richard Norman Williams, was a corporate executive, and Marian worked as an antique trader. Treat Williams’ great-great-great-grandfather was Connecticut politician William Henry Barnum.

P.T. Barnum’s third cousin was named Treat William. Treat Williams was related to Robert Treat Paine, who signed the Declaration of Independence. Treat Williams attended Kent School to receive his diploma. When he was in school, he excelled at football and used to play it.
