Career

Kefu was selected by the Queensland Reds for the Super 12’s first season in 1996, despite being just 21 years old. He made his international debut against South Africa on August 23, 1997, at 23. In 2000, he was instrumental in Australia’s first-ever Tri-Nations victory, which coincided with the Wallabies winning their third straight Bledisloe Cup trophy. In 2001, he played in all three tests for Australia against the British and Irish Lions, helping them win their first series in more than 70 years. In 2010, he took over as head coach of the Sunshine Coast Stingrays, a Queensland Premier League club.

After the 2009–10 season, he retired from rugby. Tonga won two World Cup games, beating Japan in 18 and France in 1914. They also beat Samoa 19, their first win over Manu Samoa since 2007. Their lone loss came at the hands of Japan, who defeated them by a score of 2827.
