Newcastle United’s high-profile takeover has led to speculation about a slew of potential big-name signings.
However, given Newcastle’s current league position and the club’s unlikely participation in Europe next season, not all of them are realistic.
Former Arsenal player Paul Merson believes Newcastle could sign a handful of Premier League players in January who are both talented and realistic.
Number 4: James Tarkowski (Burnley)

His contract expires in June so that he could come for a fee.
Number 3: Lingard (Manchester United)
Lingard is desperate for first-team football, which Newcastle could provide, with game time at Manchester United limited and the 2022 World Cup coming up next year.
Like Tarkowski, Lingard has a contract that expires in the summer and could become a free agent.
Number 2: Dele Alli (Tottenham)
The midfielder struggled under Jose Mourinho but is back in the team under Nuno Espirito Santo.
He is under contract at Tottenham until 2024, and chairman Daniel Levy is a tough negotiator, so this one may be more difficult for Newcastle to arrange.

The England midfielder is under contract with Leicester until 2024, and while he is an important part of Brendan Rodgers’ plans, he is not a guaranteed starter.
