In AMC’s new supernatural series, Mayfair Witches, actor Tongayi Chirisa portrays the role Ciprien Grieve. Ciprien, according to reports, is a fictional character created for the program and does not appear in Anne Rice’s original book trilogy. He’s set to play an important part in Mayfair Witches. Tongayi Chirisa is a well-known Zimbabwean actor who has been in a variety of series throughout the years, including Crusoe, The Jim Gaffigan Show, and others. The new series debuted on AMC on January 8, 2023.

Tongayi Chirisa was born on August 8, 1981, in Harare, Zimbabwe. Chirisa seems to have spent his early years in Harare. He attended Lomagundi College before graduating from AFDA in South Africa with a bachelor’s degree in live performance. Tongayi Chirisa’s first part was in the TV drama Studio 263, where he played Detective Trevor Davis. He went on to portray small parts in a number of feature films and short films, including Tanyaradzwa, Ace of Hearts, and Skin, to mention a few.
His greatest television break came on NBC’s Crusoe. In the musical, he played Man Friday, and spectators praised him for his performance. Other significant TV appearances include The Jim Gaffigan Show, Another Life, iZombie, and others. Tongayi Chirisa told PopCulture.com in an interview on his character in AMC’s Mayfair Witches that Ciprien is a “empath.” He stated (obtained via PopCulture.com),
“I believe it is being allowed to be as sensitive with emotions because you are witnessing someone else’s life via touch. I believe one of the things I liked most about it was how it highlighted the sort of guy he is while also allowing the public to understand a lot of people’s history via his perspective and how it impacts him.”

Alexandra Daddario plays Rowan Fielding in the series, and she has received great appreciation from reviewers for her portrayal since the first episode aired on January 8, 2023. Many additional actors, including Jack Huston as Lasher, Tongayi Chirisa as Ciprien Grieve, Harry Hamlin as Cortland Mayfair, and Annabeth Gish as Deirdre Mayfair, appear in supporting roles with Daddario.
