Grigorieva and Mikhalkov met in 1995 while Grigorieva was working as a translator for Russian filmmaker Nikita Mikhalkov. They were blessed with the birth of a son named Alexander in August 1997. Regrettably, the two broke up in the early 2000s. Grigorieva began dating Mel Gibson in early 2007. However, the two had a tumultuous relationship that resulted in legal battles. Mel Gibson vs. Oksana Grigorieva
As previously stated, Grigorieva and Gibson had a tumultuous relationship. The musician became pregnant with a girl nearly two years into their relationship. They welcomed Lucia on October 30, 2009, and five months later, in April 2010, the couple divorced. Grigorieva filed a restraining order against the actor a month later, alleging that he assaulted her. Gibson admitted to slapping the singer after she was accused of violently shaking Lucia. However, he was unable to visit his daughter due to the restraining order. The actor’s fortunes then began to deteriorate. Numerous tapes and emails have been leaked in which he is heard verbally abusing Grigorieva and employing derogatory slurs.
This eventually resulted in a protracted court battle over child custody. Dalton stood by his ex-partner throughout the process. He warned Gibson to keep a safe distance from Alexander, claiming he did not want Gibson to come within ten feet of his son. Additionally, he was concerned about what Alexander witnessed and heard while Grigorieva was with Gibson. According to The Mirror, Dalton was by his son’s side during Alexander’s interrogation by the Department of Children and Family Services.
Gibson eventually offered Grigorieva approximately $15 million, but she declined. She dropped her abuse claims in May 2011 and was awarded $750,000 three months later. Additionally, she was given a house in California to live in with her daughter until she reached the age of 18. Gibson and Grigorieva, likewise, agreed to share custody of Lucia.
