After playing for F.C. Copenhagen’s youth teams at different levels, Delaney made his professional debut in an unofficial friendly in August 2008. Delaney was moved up to the main team during the summer break of 2009. He played his first game on a different continent against FK Morgen in the Champions League qualifying round. He also scored for Copenhagen in that game. On August 9, 2009, he played his first Superliga game against SonderjyskE.
On 6th July 2013, he signed an extended contract with Copenhagen until 2015. At the same time, he was given the number 8 on his jersey. Then, in the next few seasons, he became the regular starter. He played in games against Galatasaray, Juventus, and Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
Again, on January 23, 2014, Delaney added a year to his contract, making it last until 2017. At the time, he was also moved up to become the team’s vice-captain. Six months after that, Delaney became the captain of his club.
On May 16, 2016, Delaney was named “Man of the Match” after his team beat FC Vestsjaelland 3-2 in the Danish Cup final. He played overall 244 matches and scored 24 goals for Copenhagen. While he was in the club, he got along very well with Mathias “Zanka” Jrgensen.
Werder Bremen
Delaney moved to Werder Breman in January 2017. On 18th February, he scored his first goal for Bremen in a 2-0 victory. In the same way, he scored a hat-trick for the first time on April 1, when his team beat Freiburg 5-2.
Borussia Dortmund
Delaney signed a four-year deal with Borussia Dortmund on June 7, 2018, to play for them. It was said that Werder Bremen got €20 million for the player. Delaney came in for Dortmund in the second half of their 4–1 win over RB Leipzig in the 2021 DFB-Pokal Final on May 13, 2021.
Sevilla
