Terry Venables played as a midfielder professionally from 1960 to 1976. During his career, Terry played for four clubs, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Queens Park Rangers, Crystal Palace. Venables left school in the summer of 1958 and signed for Chelsea as an apprentice at the age of 15. After Venables was signed by Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £80,000 and made his debut for the club in a 1-0 win at Blackburn Rovers on May 9, 1966. then he played for Queens Park Rangers from 1969–1970. Later Venables joined Crystal Palace in 1974, and he and Ian Evans were swapped for Don Rogers. He made 14 Third Division appearances in 1974–75 before retiring on New Year’s Eve due to arthritis.
International Career
In addition to two international caps, Venables held the distinction of being the only footballer to have represented England at the schoolboy, youth, amateur, Under-23, and full international levels. Since the amateur team was disbanded in 1974, no player has been able to match his record. Alf Ramsey named him to a list of 33 “possibles” for the 1966 FIFA World Cup, despite having won two caps in 1964 – a 2–2 draw with Belgium and a 1–1 draw with the Netherlands – but he did not make the final squad of 22.
