Terry Richard McAuliffe was born in Syracuse, New York on February 9, 1957. He is the son of Mildred Katherine McAuliffe and Jack McAuliffe. His father was a local Democrat who also worked as a real estate agent.
McAuliffe graduated from Bishop Ludden High School. Following that, he worked as a resident advisor at the Catholic University of America. He also holds a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center.
