Terrence Shannon Jr, 23, has been charged with rape after an alleged incident in September. The event occurred in Kansas, where he had gone to see the football team play. Shannon was suspended from all team activities by the University of Illinois on December 27, one day after the Douglas (Kansas) County District Attorney filed an arrest warrant. Terrence was not a member of the school’s traveling party when the event occurred on September 8.
Illinois stated Thursday that it was aware of Shannon’s accusations since late September. His attorney, Mark P. Sutter, has said that his client is innocent of all accusations. Shannon, according to Sutter, has worked with law enforcement since September and has always maintained his innocence. The attorney further said that his client voluntarily surrendered less than 24 hours after official accusations were filed against him in Lawrence, Kansas.
