Bruce, who had always considered herself bisexual but chose to identify as a lesbian, was engaged to be married to Benet. However, her relationship with the actress did not end happily, and all information about her personal life was then withheld.

Bruce worked as Benet’s secretary on Days of Our Lives. Benet was going through a period of grief at the time. She had been dealing with the loss of her son as well as a recent divorce from her ex-husband Bill Bixby. After a child and ten years of marriage, the actress divorced Bixby in 1979. Then, on March 1, 1981, she lost her son, Christopher Sean Bixby, to a rare childhood illness called acute epiglottitis.

She had killed herself by inflicting a gunshot wound on her head with a.38 caliber bullet.
Bruce suffered a mental breakdown as a result of the incident. She ended up in the hospital for a few days, and Benet’s ex-husband, Bill Bixby, paid her entire hospital bill.
