Stromae was born on March 12, 1985, in Etterbeek, Brussels, Belgium. Paul Van Haver Sr. and Miranda Van Haver raised him. His father was an architect who died in the 1994 Rwandan genocide. He attended Jesuit School and then Saint Paul College. He dropped out of school when he was sixteen. As a result, he and his schoolmates decided to form a rap group.
