Stone Gossard is an American musician who is currently the lead guitarist for the Pearl Jam band. Gossard and his friends Eddie Vedder, Jeff Ament, and Mike McCready formed the band in 1990. He had previously worked with Mother Love and Green River, both of which were based in Seattle, Washington, before forming Pearl Jam. He is a member of the Brad and Temple of the Dog bands, as well as a solo musician, in addition to working with Pearl Jam. His work has been recognized all over the world, and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

Carpenter in Stone Gossard was born to parents in Seattle, Washington on July 20, 1966. His father, David W. Gossard Jr., was a lawyer, and his mother, Mary Carolyn Carpenter, worked for the city of Seattle. Gossard grew up in Seattle with his two sisters, Shelly Joan Dirette and Star Leslie Dirette. He has spent the majority of his musical career in bands. March of Crimes was his first band in Seattle. His time with the band was brief, but he credits them with introducing him to the emerging music scenes in Seattle.

Career

After a brief stint with the March of Crimes band, he moved on to Green River, which was founded in 1984 by Steve Turner. Turner preferred rock, whereas Gossard and Ament preferred heavy metal. Turner eventually left the band due to disagreements within the band. The band’s first EP, Come on Down, was released in 1985, and it was followed two years later by the second, Dry as a Bone, in 1987. The band’s feuding reached a boiling point during the recording of their Rehab Doll, leading to the band’s disbandment in 1988.

Gossard, Ament, and Fairweather formed the Mother Love Bone band in 1988. Initially, the band was successful in becoming one of Seattle’s most highly rated bands. The group’s success didn’t last long; Wood, one of its members with drug problems, overdosed on heroin and died a few days later.
