Anthony Jerome Webb aka Spud Webb was born on July 13, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. He is 61 years old. His father, David Webb, and mother, Katie Webb, gave birth to him. As a result, he came from a poor family that struggled to make ends meet. Similarly, he has five siblings, the names of whom are unknown.
In addition, the entire family of eight lived in a small two-bedroom house in Dallas. He began playing basketball to help his family’s situation and fell in love with it. In the seventh grade, he attempted to join the school basketball team. But he was turned down because he was too short to play. Later, he honed his skills and enrolled in Wilmer-Hutchins High School. He had the same problem at school.

Despite his good grades, Spud was having difficulty finding a college that was interested in him. As a result, the reason was his height once more. He did, however, join the Midland College basketball team, the ‘Chaparrals.’ He led his team to the junior college national championship in 1982. In the game against Miami-Dade, he had his best game of the season, scoring 36 points.
He received the biggest breakthrough he had hoped for as a result of his performance in the tournament. In addition, Sports Illustrated featured him in an article, and he became a national headline. In 1983, the National Junior College Athletic Association named him a ‘NJCAA-All American.
Later, he caught the attention of North Carolina State University’s assistant coach, Tom Abatemarco. He was introduced to Jim Valvano through him. Jim is the university basketball team’s head coach. Fortunately, Jim recognized his potential and offered him a university scholarship. His selection in the ‘NBA Draft’ in 1985 was not likely, as many scouts assumed. Against all odds, he was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in the 1985 NBA Draft.
He did, however, make his debut with the Atlanta Hawks during the 1985–1986 season. As a result, during his first few years with Atlanta, his performance was neither too good nor too bad. During his rookie season, he averaged 7.8 points per game in 79 games. Moving forward, he struggled to perform, with his average PPG dropping to 6.8 and 6.0 in the next two years, respectively. The 1988–1989 season was a disaster for him, as he only averaged 3.9 points per game.
Later, he made a strong comeback, averaging 9.2 and 13.4 points per game. The ‘Hawks’ let him go in 1991. In addition, he was drafted by the ‘Sacramento Kings’ the same year. His confidence grew as he began posting and he went on to play for the Kings for the next three seasons. Throughout the seasons, he averaged 14.5, 12.7, and 11.6 points per game.
Similarly, he joined the ‘Atlanta Hawks in 1995 with below-average performances. He left the game after the 1998 season. In 1986, he competed in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest.
