Sofia Sapega is a Russian student and controversial figure from Vilnius, Lithuania. A recent incident in Belarus, a European country, drew worldwide attention. On the 23rd of May 2021, a Ryanair civilian flight took off as planned.
The flight took off from Athens at 7:29 a.m. and was scheduled to land in Vilnius; however, the flight was rerouted and forcedly diverted over Belarus to land in Minsk.

Roman and Sofia Sapega were returning from a vacation in Greece on May 23, 2021. They were on FR4978, a civilian plane, with other passengers. This plane’s intended destination was Vilnius. According to the source, the flight was diverted mid-flight. It was eventually forced to land in Minsk.
Many news outlets later confirmed that Belarus had decided to send a fighter jet to perform the forced landing. The possibility of a bomb in the plane was given to officials as the reason for the emergency landing. However, no bomb was discovered when the plane was scanned. Mr. Protasevich was then taken away by police, while the other passengers remained unharmed.
Later, it was found that Roman’s girlfriend Sofia was also detained. Alexander used his military aircraft to punch every individual in Belarus and Europe. He ordered Roman’s arrest and flight diversion. Roman Protasevich faces execution.
Sofia, a student at EHU, will defend her master’s thesis in Vilnius before graduation. Her family and friends contact the university often. Roman and Sofia’s prison video became viral.
