Following an impressive start for FC Midtjylland’s youth team, he was promoted to the first team and made his debut against AGF on September 30, 2007. During his time with the Danish Superliga club, his performances drew interest from top English Premier League clubs such as Middlesbrough and Chelsea.
However, in February 2008, he signed with the Italian football club Palermo for a reported transfer fee of $ 13.93 million from Midtjylland. He made his debut for the Italian club as a substitute against Fiorentina on October 26, 2008, and he scored his first goal for the team against Chievo on November 2, 2008.
