Shreya Lenka of Odisha is one step away from being India’s first K-pop idol. Shreya Lenka, an 18-year-old girl from Rourkela, was born in 2003. She is one of two finalists chosen from worldwide tryouts for a seat in the South Korean girl group BLACKSWAN. Shreya will become the fifth member of the already established K-Pop girl band BLACKSWAN if she defeats Gabriela Dalcin of Brazil.
Shreya Lenka has the potential to become India’s first K-Pop idol.
BLACKSWAN’s company, DR Music, announced in May 2021 that they will organize worldwide auditions to replace a slot left vacant by Hyemi’s departure from the group. Shreya Lenka was later confirmed to be one of those chosen in the worldwide audition for the second round. Shreya Lenka has already acquired a lot of fame on YouTube for her dance and singing covers, and many Indian and foreign K-Pop fans are pulling for her to become a trainee under the company and become India’s first K-Pop idol.
DR Music just announced on their official Instagram page that two persons are now in the running for the coveted position. Gabriela Dalcin is a member of the Queens of Revolution dance cover girl ensemble. Shreya Lenka, a professional dancer and yoga practitioner, was chosen as the sole Indian student.
She, like Gabriela, does K-pop dance covers. The two will now go to South Korea for a month of training. At the end of this period, one of them will be chosen to join the girl group. Shreya Lenka has studied Hindustani classical, Odissi, and various styles of modern dance. Shreya has been working with Madan Mohan Purty, the 2009 champion of Boogie Woogie Hip Hop. As a child, the adolescent had taken in Odissi classes but had to leave them due to a financial difficulty. She subsequently studied under Mendo Barla.
Fans have also appreciated Shreya Lenka for her wild dancing movements and calming deep voice. Shreya went on to say,
“Because I have a deep voice, it was tough for me to locate a suitable vocal trainer.” My granny assisted me in locating one. She arranged for me to be taught Hindustani classical music twice a week by a Hindustani classical music instructor. “However, for western music, I had to depend on web videos and self-study.”
