Shonda Lynn Rhimes is Vera P. and Ilee Rhimes Jr.’s daughter. She was born on January 13, 1970, in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in Park Forest South.
Marian Catholic High School was where she finished her education. Dartmouth College awarded her a BA degree in film studies and English in 1991. She was a member of the Black Underground Theater Association there.
