Career
She began dancing at the age of seven and began competing in the years that followed. At age 15, Ballas relocated to North Yorkshire to dance with British Ballroom Champion Nigel Tiffany. Two years later, she relocated to London with Tiffany. Shirley’s dance instructor, Nina Hunt, persuaded her to audition for a dance partnership with Sammy Stopford. In 1983, their greatest accomplishment was winning Professional Latin at the Black Dance Festival. Collectively, their greatest accomplishment was capturing Professional Latin at the 1995-1996 Blackpool Dance Festival.
