Despite signing Ferguson as a solo artist, Barrett was already in the midst of forming a trio named The Three Degrees, which included Fayette Pinkney, Shirley Porter, and Linda Turner. Fayette Pinkney, Helen Scott, and Janet Harmon were added to the lineup in 1966. Scott, on the other hand, stated that she would be quitting the group to marry. Ferguson had previously performed with the group as a cover when one of the girls became unwell, and Pinkney and Harmon requested her to become a regular member. Harmon quit the group in 1967, and Valerie Holiday took her place.
They published the album A Toast of Love (for the Far East market) in 1976, and the title song was distributed globally. Fayette Pinkney departed this year, and she was replaced by the previous member Helen Scott. In 1977, they released the album Standing Up for Love. Ferguson debuted in the West End musical Behind the Iron Mask at the Duchess Theatre in 2005 and later toured in Hot Flush, a menopause-themed musical.
