Career
Ryder was the frontman for Happy Mondays at the time, and his drug problems contributed to the band’s original break-up in 1992. The (semi-fictional) account of Ryder’s adolescence and the lives of Happy Mondays, when signed with Factory Records in the late 1980s and early 1990s, was portrayed in the film 24 Hour Party People. Ryder is played by Danny Cunningham in the film.
Ryder has been a member of two Happy Mondays reformations (1999–2000 and 2004–present). He also recorded a solo album, Amateur Night in the Big Top, to mixed reviews.
