Sean Penn has completed his divorce from his third wife, Leila George. On April 22, 2022, the divorce was finalized after five years of being together and over a year of marriage. The couple began dating in 2016 and married four years later. In the middle of the COVID-19 epidemic, they held a secret wedding ceremony in June 2020. Penn made an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers to announce their wedding via Zoom. The county commissioner was using Zoom, while the couple was at home with their children and George’s brothers. His marriage to George was his third marriage.
Madonna was his first wife, with whom he was married from 1985 until 1989. Then, in 1996, he married Robin Wright, with whom he divorced in 2010. Penn’s relationship with his third wife, like his previous marriages, ended in divorce.
Divorce of Sean Penn and Leila George
George filed for divorce in October 2021, after a year of marriage. She filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleging irreconcilable differences. According to the court documents, the disagreements “led to the irremediable breakup of the marriage, making it impossible for the Parties to live together as husband and wife.” However, neither Penn nor George have said clearly why they separated. The divorce is now completed six months later. TMZ was the first to report that Penn and George were no longer together.
Sean Penn Blame Himself for His Divorce
While George has not blamed her ex-boyfriend, Penn blames himself for their breakup. He stated that although he had never cheated on his wife, he had been unfaithful in other ways. He admitted to being inattentive during his relationship in an interview with Hollywood Authentic on April 9, 2022. He put booze ahead of his relationship and enabled himself to disregard his wife. Other things were more important to him, such as “being absolutely miserable and pushed to booze and Ambien at 11 a.m., by watching the news, by watching the Trump period, by watching it and simply despairing.”
He and his third wife have a 32-year age difference, which he blames for their marital problems. He joked that “beautiful, extremely nice, intelligent, clever young ladies” don’t like their elderly spouses dozing on the sofa all night and drinking early in the morning. He was unsure if he would ever reunite with his ex-wife, but he admitted that he still loved her. Furthermore, he was attempting to be a better guy for her. He could spend 12 days without using his phone or watching the news. He was also less stressed than he had been in the past.
He no longer relied on drinks to make things better. Although he sometimes drinks vodka and takes Ambien to sleep, it is not as serious as it formerly was, and he does not use them to “hide from the world.” George has yet to comment on their relationship or separation.
